About

Maiko moved to South Australia from Japan in 2011.  She studied visual arts and ceramics at Flinders University.  Now she mainly works as an artist in the local area.

Message from the artist

“My work is inspired by nature and organisms which we tend to overlook in our daily life such as frogs, fungi or phytoplankton.  I am fascinated by such simple lives as they are often an important part of a large ecosystem and have great roles in keeping harmony.
Correlation is also an important factor for my creative ideas.  I try to create a positive relationship between artificial objects and organic elements. My aim is to keep my work simple but nostalgic when the two elements exist together.

I also believe a great correlation between me and the viewer through my work.  So, when you are interested in my work, please touch my work, feel and imagine you using it in your daily life.  This is our communication beyond words.”
